‘Ty did this’: Woman ID’s ex-boyfriend as her killer before dying

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) — A woman who was allegedly stabbed to death by an ex-boyfriend told her dad he attacked her in her final moments, police said.

“Ty did this,” Shirley Rodriguez, 29, muttered to her father after she was assaulted early Monday outside the Washington Heights apartment building where she lived with her dad, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.

Tyquane Jemmott, 33, a Bronx resident, was arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing, Kenny said Tuesday at a press briefing. He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Jemmott allegedly hid between two cars outside of Rogriguez’s building on Haven Avenue near West 172nd Street and waited for her to leave for work at around 5:40 a.m. Monday, police said. The ex-lover then allegedly stabbed her several times in the front and back of the body, neck, arm, and face, Kenny said.

Rodriguez was also slashed, punched, and dragged during the 1-minute attack, which was caught on video.

“She was fighting back the whole time,” Kenny said.

Bystanders chased Jemmott from the scene, and the cab driver waiting for Rodriguez called 911 before she got up and pressed the intercom of her building to ask her dad for help, according to authorities.

“As she’s dying, she tells him (the dad), ‘Ty did this,'” Kenny said.

Rodriguez was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

Police said the victim and the ex-boyfriend were together for two years before breaking up last week. The former couple had two prior domestic disputes on record.

Jemmott was apprehended at his uncle’s house in the Bronx, police said. He has one prior arrest for criminal mischief.
