Two Wytheville teens charged for allegedly vandalizing 20 vehicles with paint balloons

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Wytheville Police Department says two 19-year-olds have been charged after allegedly vandalizing 20 vehicles with paint balloons. 

According to the police, on March 24 around 9:40 a.m., a Wytheville officer received several calls regarding cars being vandalized. As their investigation continued, on March 25, officers learned that 20 vehicles were vandalized. 

During the investigation, officers traced the purchase of the paint balloons back to the Walmart in Wytheville. While using the purchase history, cash register receipts, photos, and video footage, officers were able to locate the vehicle and the two teens allegedly involved.

Peirce Douglas Martin and Matthew David Durham were both arrested and charged with misdemeanor vandalism.

The pair are set to appear in the Wythe County General District Court on May 13.  Police say if your car was vandalized and you wish to make a report, email wythevillepolice@wytheville.org with the attention of Officer Thompson, or call (276) 223-3300. Police are asking victims to provide their names, addresses, phone numbers, license plate numbers, and photos of the paint on their vehicle. 

Police said the product is advertised as a non-drying paint product that is water soluble.
