Two Texas men charged in connection with $96,000 robbery from south Wichita bank

Two men from Houston have been charged in connection with a nearly $100,000 robbery from a south Wichita bank in October.

The men, 18-year-old Demond M. Johnson and 25-year-old Ryan D. Smith, each face one count of bank robbery after allegedly stealing $96,000, court documents show.

The pair are accused of robbing the Credit Union of America on South Ridge Road on Oct. 17, 2023. If convicted, they could each face up to 20 years in prison, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas.

They could also be fined a maximum amount of $250,000, court documents show.

The Wichita Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation worked the case.
