Two San Diego-area ramen spots among best in California: Yelp

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego County boasts a broad range of culinary fare for food lovers, and two restaurants were just recognized for serving some of the best bowls of ramen in California.

The restaurant GONZO! located in Carlsbad Village recently placed second in Yelp’s Top 100 Ramen Spots in California. The restaurant’s website describes it as a “family owned and operated izakaya-style restaurant” that offers six types of ramen as well as rice bowls and Japanese appetizers.

GONZO! has three main specialty ramens: the GONZO! Black, which is a tonkotsu-based ramen drizzled with black garlic oil, the GONZO! Red, which is a spicy miso ramen, and the GONZO! Green, a vegan ramen.

Another Japanese restaurant, HiroNori Craft Ramen, placed fourth on Yelp’s list for its location in the Hillcrest neighborhood. It has a total of 15 locations throughout California.

The list was compiled by identifying which businesses had the largest concentration of reviews containing relevant keywords and then ranking them based on factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews featuring those keywords. All of the restaurants on the list were open as of March 1, according to Yelp.

Several other restaurants in the county were included on the list, including the following:
