Two Rivers garage fire was caused by faulty vent pipe above wood burner

TWO RIVERS — A garage fire Monday afternoon resulted in an estimated $10,000 in damages and no injuries.

Firefighters were dispatched to a detached garage in the 900 block of 18th Street at around 4:15 p.m. Monday, Two Rivers Fire Department said in a news release.

When firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke was visible coming from the roof, doors and chimney, the release said.

Nobody was inside the structure at the time of the blaze and the fire department said it had the fire under control by 4:35 p.m. and left the scene by 5:38 p.m.

The fire was caused by a faulty vent pipe above a wood burner and started in the corner of the garage. Damage included smoke and fire damage to the back half of the garage, the department said.

Two Rivers Police Department and Manitowoc Fire Department assisted the Two Rivers Fire Department at the scene.
