Two people injured in I-384 crash that required extrication

Two people were injured in a crash on Interstate 384 in Manchester on Sunday afternoon that required firefighters to extricate both victims from a vehicle that ended up on its roof, entangled in trees.

The crash was reported at 1:43 p.m. on I-384 West in the area of Exit 4, according to Connecticut State Police.

Firefighters had to cut several trees to access the vehicle after it left the road and ended up in a wooded area, according to the Manchester Fire Department. Fire officials said crews then lifted the vehicle and had to “disentangle” two occupants.

It took crews about 15 minutes to extricate the victims.

Both victims, age 29, were taken to Hartford Hospital with injuries, officials said.

According to state police, the crash involved a 2009 Acura TL being driven by a New Britain woman who said she was in the left lane of three when she was cut off by another motorist, causing her to leave the road and strike a tree in the center median. State police said they could not find anything indicating there was a collision involving another vehicle.

Troopers allegedly smelled alcohol as they spoke to both the driver and passenger of the Acura, according to state police. State police said they suspect the driver was operating under the influence.

The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
