Two people rescued near Shelter Island after boat takes on water

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were rescued after their vessel started taking on water in the San Diego Bay Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported Friday.

Around 4 p.m. Thursday, watchstanders at the Coast Guard’s San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received a call from two adults who reported that their 38-foot boat had struck a shallow area while entering the San Diego Bay and was at risk of taking on water, the USCG said.

When the mariners called again, saying water had made its way into their boat, a crew from the San Diego Harbor Police and Station San Diego were dispatched.

No one was injured during the incident, the USCG said.

Coast Guard crewmembers were able to remove water from the boat, which was later safely towed to Driscoll Boat Works in Shelter Island for repairs.
