Two men, two minors indicted on murder charges in connection to deadly Baton Rouge shooting

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Two men and two minors were indicted Thursday, March 7, in relation to a deadly shooting in Baton Rouge in February.

Travelle Burris, 19, and Treylen Williams, 18, were indicted on charges of second-degree murder in the death of David Atkins, 18.

Burris and Williams were also indicted on charges of armed robbery and possession of firearm/carrying concealed weapon by convicted felon.

Victim identified in deadly shooting at apartments in Baton Rouge

The two juveniles, Mark Burris, 17, and Jason Sheppard, 17, were indicted on charges of first-degree murder.

Atkins was fatally shot, and another victim was injured in a shooting that occurred in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue in Baton Rouge on Feb. 10, according to police.

Atkins was identified as the juvenile who had escaped the juvenile detention center in November 2023.
