Two men accused of drug activity in New Orleans East arrested

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two men were arrested on Thursday, May 2 for their alleged actions in a New Orleans East area drug bust.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, around 2 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 4600 block of Viola Street of the Plum Orchard neighborhood on a call of a suspicious person in the area.

When they arrived, officers said they saw four people attempting to flee the area. Following a short pursuit, officers captured two suspects.
Through an investigation, officers said they found a black SUV near the scene that had been used by the suspects. Officers said the vehicle had a switched VIN plate.
The two arrested have been identified as 30-year-old Jamar Lewis and 32-year-old Steven Evans.

Evan faces a charge of possession of illegal drugs.
Lewis will face charges of:
Illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Illegal carrying of a firearm while in possession of illegal drugs
Seven counts of possession of illegal drugs
One count of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia
