Two Manteca teens killed, two hurt when car rolls over and lands in San Joaquin River

Two teenage girls from Manteca died in a rollover accident near Lathrop Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol reported. Two other teens were injured.

According to a press release posted on the CHP Stockton Facebook page, the accident was reported at 10 p.m. on Dos Reis Road at the San Joaquin River.

A 17-year-old boy from Manteca was driving a 2008 Honda Accord west on Dos Reis at a high rate of speed, the CHP said. The Honda kept going where the road ends at the river. The car went over a raised levee and through a fence, overturning and landing on its roof in the river.

The driver suffered minor injuries managed to get out of the car. Two female passengers, ages 16 and 17, were declared dead at the scene. A third passenger, a 16-year-old-girl also from Manteca, was resuscitated at the scene after being extricated from the car. She was taken to an area hospital; information on her condition was not immediately available.

Authorities said they believe alcohol was a factor in the incident; the driver was arrested.

Because all of those involved are juveniles, their names and other information were not released.
