Two Lansing officers treated after encountering white powder
Two Lansing police officers were given Narcan, an anti-opiate medication, and were treated and released from a hospital after encountering an unknown white, powdery substance early Sunday morning, according to the police department.
One officer developed symptoms of an overdose after searching a person. Later, a second officer developed symptoms after searching a backpack while wearing protective gear including gloves and goggles, according to a statement from Jordan Gulkis, a spokeswoman for the police department.
The vehicles involved were towed and marked as biohazards, Gulkis said.
“This shows the risk all officers take everyday on the job,” she said.
Police did not identify the individuals involved or say what charges they might face because they have not been arraigned in court, according to Gulkis' statement.
The nature of the white powder is not clear, pending tests.
