Identities of two killed in weekend crash released by Madison County coroner

Two people are dead and three others injured after a Sunday afternoon crash in rural Madison County, northeast of Edwardsville.

Illinois State Police say a 2006 Nissan Sentra was traveling north on Illinois 159, just south of Illinois 140 at about 12:58 p.m., when it suddenly crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2019 Dodge van.

The driver of the Nissan, Delores A. Long, 91, of St. Louis, was pronounced dead at the scene. Julie L. Schroeder, 63, of Bloomingdale, Illinois who was riding in a back seat of the van, was transported to the emergency room of Alton Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Three others in the van were taken to regional hospitals with injuries. They include the driver, a 37-year-old from Carlinville, a 40-year-old female passenger, also from Carlinville, and a 7-year-old female. Their names have not been released and their conditions are not known.

Illinois 159 was closed for about three hours and the scene was investigated and cleared.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
