Two arrested after Waffle House shooting leaves two hurt in Lynchburg

UPDATE: 4/22 5:31 A.M. LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) says two people have been taken into custody after a shooting at Waffle House left two people hurt on April 21.

Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, officers noticed a man who was allegedly involved in the shooting, getting into a vehicle. Police said officers attempted to stop the driver, identified as Omarian Daquon Fitch, of Lynchburg, but a chase began.

LPD said the chase continued through several streets in Lynchburg. However, Fitch crashed at the intersection of Old Mill Road and McConville Road. That’s when he allegedly exited the vehicle and began running from the police.

Fitch was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Malicious Wounding

  • Malicious Wounding

  • Reckless Handling of a Firearm

  • Shooting into an Occupied Building

  • Property Damage

  • Use of Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

  • Discharge a Firearm within the City Limit

As the investigation continued, 22-year-old Shantia Kehlish Turpin, of Lynchburg was also arrested. She was charged with:

  • Accessory After the Fact

  • Felony Eluding Police

  • Obstruction of Justice

The shooting remains under investigation.

UPDATE: 4:16 P.M. LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– Lynchburg Police say the 74-year-old who was shot is now in stable condition.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at the Waffle House on Wards Road early morning on Sunday, April 21.

According to the LPD, reports of a fight at the Waffle House on the 2300 block of Wards Road were received at 2:58 a.m. While en route, 911 dispatchers advised responding officers of gunfire occurring during the incident. On the scene, two victims were found inside the restaurant with gunshot wounds.

Officers provided aid until the medics arrived and took them to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Police say an unidentified 74-year-old victim, who LDP confirms is a Waffle House security guard, is in critical condition.

Motorcyclist sustains serious injuries in crash on Hershberger Road NW

An unidentified 30-year-old victim is in stable condition.

LPD reports the suspect allegedly fled in what is believed to be a black Nissan Sedan.
