The sheriff’s department said deputies responded on March 28 to Greeneville Community Hospital for a report of possible child abuse involving a four-month-old child. The Criminal Investigation Division was called to investigate.

That investigation led to the grand jury returning true-bill indictments on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s department.

Furr and Stewart were arrested and taken to the Greene County Detention Center. Bond was set at $150,000 each.

The child has been placed in Department of Children’s Services custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
