Two dogs were killed in a house fire Sunday morning, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at a home on Lake Atkinson Drive around 11:30 a.m. that had "heavy fire" coming from the building.

"Firefighters searched the structure and found no people inside, but two dogs did pass away in the fire," TFD said. "The cause of the fire appears to have been from unattended cooking."

No other injuries were reported, according to the news release.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS, Talquin Electric Cooperative and the Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department helped TFD on scene. The Red Cross also responded to the fire to help the residents.

"The Tallahassee Fire Department urges all residents to remain vigilant while cooking and to never leave food unattended on the stove," TFD said. "If you must leave the kitchen, turn off the stove, and made sure to set a timer to remind you that you’re cooking."
