Two deputies injured after dispute in Stafford County McDonald’s

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a dispute at a McDonald’s on Thursday night left two deputies injured.

Five people from a Charlottesville-area towing company are now facing charges.

Deputies responded to the report of a fight involving 10 people in a McDonald’s at 44 Stanstead Rd. at about 6:24 p.m. There, police say Jamie Morris, 48, a tow truck driver from Dyke, was upset over his french fry order.

This led to a verbal dispute with workers. A customer came to the defense of employees and the altercation continued in the lobby. Though there was no physical assault, store management requested Morris and the group of towing employees with him leave the property.

One employee, William Morris, Jr., 36, refused.

SCSO officers then said he was placed under arrest for trespass and he tried to flee on foot.

He was tackled a few yards away and handcuffed. As deputies brought him to a patrol car, the group of tow truck employees began circling one of the deputies.

The group was pepper sprayed and, as one suspect was being detained, 27-year-old Jamie Ragland, of Gordonsville, grabbed a deputy around his neck and threw him to the ground.

Ragland was Tasered and placed in handcuffs.

Morris was charged with obstruction and trespass; Morris, Jr. was charged with trespass, obstruction and vandalism; Ragland was charged with assault and battery on law enforcement and obstruction. William Morris, Sr., 57 of Dyke was charged with obstruction and Monica Morris, 45, of Gordonsville were also charged with obstruction.

The magistrate released all five.

The SCSO deputies injured during the incident were treated at a local hospital.
