Two dead after RV struck by train in Christian County

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people are dead after their RV was struck by a train in Christian County on Thursday afternoon.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office said Christian County 911 received a call in reference to the crash at 12:37 p.m. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Mound Fire Department, N/S Railroad Police, Illinois State Police and the Christian County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene on 2300 North Road, just west of Route 48.

Officials believe the RV was traveling east on 2300 North Road while the train was traveled north. The RV crossed onto the tracks, resulting in the crash.

The identities of the victims will remain withheld until family is notified, the Sheriff’s Office said.
