Two Children, One Teacher Injured In South Carolina School Shooting

Two six-year-old students and a teacher were injured in a shooting at Townville Elementary School earlier today (Sept. 28) in Townville, S.C. The shooting suspect is a 14-year-old male who is in custody, according to CNN.

According to reports, the shooting occurred on the school’s playground around 1:45 p.m., where one male student was hit in the foot, another male student was hit in the leg and a female teacher was hit in the shoulder by a teenager with a handgun.

The teacher and one student were transported to AnMed Health Center, where they were listed in good condition and released around 5:50 p.m. The other injured student was airlifted to Greenville Health System emergency trauma center, where he underwent surgery earlier this afternoon, says WYFF. Other students in the school were evacuated and moved to Oakdale Baptist Church.

The suspect was taken into custody by police after a volunteer firefighter helped take him down. Reports are swirling that he is a key suspect in the death of 47-year-old Jeffrey Osborne- his father- who was found dead Wednesday afternoon after being shot to death about two miles away from the school.

Burke Royster, the superintendent of the Greenville County school district, released a statement which says, “our thoughts and prayers go out to the students, teachers, administrators, and families of Townville Elementary School and Anderson School District 4.” School will be closed tomorrow, Sept. 29, and when school resumes, counselors will be on-hand to talk to students.
