Two charged with apartment break-in Marlborough

Editor's note: The armed burglary charge against Biana Manifold was dismissed without prejudice on July 24, 2012.

Two Marlborough residents were arrested early yesterday morning after police said they broke into a Park Street apartment and smashed items belonging to the residents there.

Police spokesman Detective Scott DeCiero said officers investigated a break-in at an apartment at 44 Park St.

Michael K. Nugent, 19, of 38 Whittier Road, left the apartment and got into a car with Biana Manifold, 18, of the same address, and drove away before police arrived, DeCiero said.

But Nugent and Manifold were arrested a short distance away at Granger Boulevard and Newton Street.

Police said Nugent broke two windows on an exterior door before breaking the whole thing down — he also smashed a car window.

Once inside the apartment, Nugent used a club or metal bar resembling a tire iron to smash a heater, a plate glass mirror and a fish tank, DeCiero said. Manifold was also in the apartment at some point.

There were three people in the apartment during the break-in, but no one was injured, DeCiero said. The occupants told police that they knew Nugent.

As of yesterday, DeCiero said police were not sure why Nugent and Manifold broke into the apartment.

Nugent was charged with armed burglary, vandalizing property and two counts of malicious destruction of property worth more than $250, police said. Manifold was charged with armed burglary.

During Nugent’s arraignment yesterday in Marlborough District Court, Judge Robert Harbour ordered him released on $2,500 bail and to stay away from the alleged victims.

Manifold was released without bail. They are both due back in court on Dec. 12 for a pretrial hearing.
