Forbes recently released its 2024 list of the richest families in America and two Florida families made the list.

The same two families also made Forbes’ list of American decabillionaire dynasties, which are families with fortunes worth $10 billion or more.

Here’s which family ranked as the richest in the country, five things to know about both of the Florida families that Forbes’ most recent “richest” lists and where they ranked.

Which is the richest family in the U.S.?

The late brothers who founded Walmart, Sam and Bud Walton, left seven heirs that make up the richest family in the country.

The Walton family is worth a whopping $267 billion and ranks as the richest family in America on both of Forbes’ lists. And they’re not just the name behind Walmart, the Waltons collectively own more than seven sports teams across the world.

Sam Walton’s son Rob Walton, granddaughter Carrie Walton Penner, and her husband all own the NFL’s Denver Broncos.

Bud Walton’s daughter, Ann Walton Kroenke, owns the Denver Nuggets (NBA) and Colorado Avalanche (NHL).

Her husband, Stan Kroenke, owns British soccer team Arsenal F.C. (Premier League), Arsenal W.F.C. (Women’s Super League), the Los Angeles Rams (NFL), Colorado Rapids (MLS) and Colorado Mammoth (National Lacrosse League). Kroenke also owns a couple of esports teams in two different video game leagues.

Florida's richest family: What does the Jenkins family own?

The Jenkins family, who built and partly own Publix Super Markets, is ranked as the 39th richest family in America on both of Forbes’ most recent lists. The Jenkins family is worth around $11.2 billion, according to Forbes.

Here are five things to know about the Jenkins family:

  1. The late George Jenkins, who founded Publix in 1930, started the Florida-favorite grocery store chain after leaving his job working for the Piggly Wiggly.

  2. George Jenkins’ grandson, William “Ed” Crenshaw, served as the company’s CEO from 2008 through 2016, and now sits on Publix’s board of directors.

  3. There are two other Jenkins family members, Jennifer and Howard Jenkins, currently on the board of directors at Publix.

  4. Publix employees and former employees own around 80% of the company and Jenkins family members own the rest, making it the largest employee-owned company in the country.

  5. Publix retail sales hit $54.5 billion in 2022 and the grocery store chain currently employs more than 250,000 people.

How much money does the Glazer family have?

Late real estate mogul, businessman and sports team owner Malcom Glazer left six children to inherit his wealth. The Glazer family is worth $10 billion, according to Forbes.

Here are five things to know about the Glazers:

  1. Malcolm Glazer owned and operated businesses in several different industries, from commercial real estate, to buying TV stations and a couple of sports teams.

  2. The Glazers are still owners of the two sports teams Malcolm bought: Manchester United (the most decorated soccer team in the Premier League) and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  3. Malcolm Glazer’s six children sold part of their stake in Manchester United to British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe at the end of 2023.

  4. One of Malcolm’s six children and his only daughter, Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, is the president of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation and of The Glazer Vision Foundation, a family foundation that gives vision care to underserved kids.

  5. Malcolm Glazer bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $192 million in 1995 and it's now worth an estimated $4 billion (net of debt), according to Forbes.
