Two arrested in connection to two Peninsula USPS carrier robberies

(KRON) — A Sacramento man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in connection with robberies that happened in Palo Alto and Belmont over the weekend. In both cases, the victims were United States Postal Service workers, the Palo Alto Police Department said.

The first robbery happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Belmont on the 700 block of Old Country Road. The Belmont Police Department said two suspects driving a black Infiniti with a stolen license plate robbed a mail carrier without a weapon, throwing the victim to the ground.

At 2:18 p.m., PAPD received a call from someone saying two suspicious males were loitering on the 800 block of Ilima Court. After seeing the witness, they got into a black Infiniti that matched the car described by Belmont police. Several minutes later, other witnesses called PAPD to say a mail carrier was robbed by two people on the 800 block of Ilima Court.

PAPD officers found the suspect vehicle driving northbound on El Camino Real near Matadero Avenue. They tried to stop the car, but it drove off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The chase ended when the car crashed into a tree in a private parking lot on the 3100 block of Hansen Way, police said. Both suspects were arrested after trying to run away.

Neither suspect had significant injuries. The car, which was determined to have been stolen from Alameda on May 1, was towed away. It had a license plate from a car that was stolen in Hayward on May 11, police said.

Police recovered two sets of postal keys from the reported victims in Belmont and Palo Alto. Two “realistic-looking replica handguns” were found at the scene as well, police said.

The suspects were identified as Trevionne Lamar Williams, 19, of Sacramento and an unidentified juvenile. Williams was jailed for assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse (one victim was elderly), vehicle theft and resisting arrest. He was out on bail from Sacramento County after being arrested for firearm-related crimes. The juvenile was taken to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

Belmont police, Palo Alto police and the USPS are investigating to see if the suspects can be linked to any other postal robberies.
