Two arrested in Cheboygan for embezzlement from vulnerable adult

CHEBOYGAN — Following an investigation that began in April, the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrests of two Cheboygan residents on multiple charges related to embezzlement from a vulnerable adult.

The investigation began on April 26 after a family member of the victim helped to assist them in filing a report.

“A family member assisted the victim in reporting that checks were written from the victim’s investment account over the course of a year resulting in a large loss of funds,” said Undersheriff Josh Ginop in a press release.

The investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s caregiver, Edward John Guyette II, 33, and his wife, Jessica Marie Guyette, 27, both from Cheboygan. The investigation was presented to the Cheboygan County Prosecutor’s Office and charges were issued. Both suspects have been arraigned and bonds set.

According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Edward John Guyette II was arrested on May 3 and charged with conducting a criminal enterprise, 33 counts of uttering and publishing, 33 counts of forgery, conspiracy to interfere in a criminal case, and larceny of $20,000 or more.

Jessica Guyette was arrested on May 9 and charged with conspiracy to conduct a criminal enterprise, conspiracy to commit embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $100,000 or more, conspiracy to commit uttering and publishing, conspiracy to commit forgery, and conspiracy to interfere in a criminal case.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials said additional charges may be added.
