Two arrested on I-49 in Springdale following pursuit involving stolen U-Haul van

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — UPDATE: ARDOT says the scene has been cleared.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Two people have been arrested following a pursuit on Interstate 49 headed southbound near Exit 70 in Springdale.

Sgt. Matt Ray with the Springdale Police Department said Benton County sheriff’s deputies were in pursuit of a U-Haul van. Ray said Springdale police are assisting with traffic.

Lt. Shannon Jenkins with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office says the van was stolen. Jenkins says the sheriff’s office was assisting the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and picked up the pursuit in Siloam Springs.

Jenkins says charges are being sorted.

The incident is causing slowdowns, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

Multiple emergency vehicles are on the scene.

The incident impacts all lanes.

Traffic is being moved to the left shoulder. Vehicles are being stopped as far back as mile marker 76.
