In a Wednesday evening post on Twitter's official blog, sports and entertainment head Omid Ashtari introduced tweeters and football fans alike to the microblogging network's official "Get started" page for keeping up with the NFL. Ashtari's blog post recaps some notable tweets by NFL players this offseason, and offers a few tips for users.
The "Get started" page itself (screenshot above and link here) may strike seasoned tweeters as extremely basic, but it's a perfect primer for new Twitter users who also happen to be NFL fans. It explains how to search for topics of interest using key terms or hashtags, how to follow Tweeters for updates and information, and points out that users can simply observe -- with no actual tweeting required. The page also includes links and follow buttons for each of the league's 32 teams.

It's a smart move, as Twitter looks to continue adding new members, and is the latest example of the company taking a more active role in how its users consume major events, especially in the sports world. Twitter partnered with NBC this summer for a London Olympics hub, and partnered with NASCAR in June for a similar hub in advance of the Pocono 400 race, which was later officially renamed the Pocono 400 presented by #NASCAR.
Twitter also created a social hub for the Euro 2012 soccer tournament independent of any official partnerships. All three hubs suggested top relevant follows, and used a combination of algorithms and human curation to present a stream of tweets from journalists, broadcasters, commentators, athletes and other notable users.
