Twitter rips Will Smith's 'too blue' Genie after 'Aladdin' trailer airs during the Grammys
A new trailer for the live action "Aladdin" dropped during the 61st annual Grammy Awards, introducing Will Smith's blue Genie to the world. Let's just say Twitter is not impressed.
Fans got a first look at Smith's high-ponytail-wearing character back in December, but movie buffs couldn't help but notice that Genie wasn't the blue hue of the animated movie’s Robin Williams-voiced original.
The latest trailer, however, granted fans' wishes.
"I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!" Smith wrote on Instagram, along with the clip featuring Mena Massoud's Aladdin and Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine. "Y’all need to trust me more often!"

But, it appears you can never truly satisfy Twitter, because more criticism ensued. Many users commented that the Genie was too blue, channeling everything from Avatar to the Smurfs.

Kyle Buchanan went as far as comparing Smith's Genie to "a spoiler for BIRD BOX because I finally understand what image would make them so fascinated but also want to kill themselves."
He continued: "I just stepped outside and... how are there not crashed cars? How are there not people walking around in a daze? Have they not seen the Will Smith genie yet? Dare I show them?"

Ian Hecox pondered if this is the real deal: "Either this is a super clever marketing troll by Disney, and this isn’t what the genie will actually look like for Aladdin or... I dunno. Man, I just can’t believe this can possibly be the real thing. I just can’t."
