Twitter Reacts To Trump’s Tweet Of Illuminated White House

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks next to First Lady Melania Trump during the military families picnic at the White House in Washington, DC, on July 4, 2017.

The White House was illuminated with red, white and blue colors Tuesday to celebrate Independence Day. While President Donald Trump sent out his good wishes while posting a picture of that on Twitter, many users trolled him by likening the picture to an inverted French flag.

Replying to the president’s tweet, many users posted pictures of the French flag and compared the illuminated White House with it. Some posted upside-down pictures of the illuminated White House to show its resemblance to the French flag.

One user named Jules Suzdaltsev even wrote, “Upside down FrenchFlag???? Come on Trump!”

Other tweets then moved the conversation along with tweets like “The flag of surrender” and “I surrender” while others started tweeting photo-shopped images of the White House with a different flag.

However, not all Twitter users were happy with the comparison and the mocking. Many criticized those comparing the “color of America” with the French flag.

The White house is illuminated with various colors to mark special occasions. In honor of the nation’s slain law enforcement officers, the building was lit blue May 15.

First Lady Melania Trump also tweeted a message thanking America's service members. "We are the land of the free because of the brave. Thank you to the heroes who serve!" she wrote.

First daughter and special adviser to the president, Ivanka Trump also spoke about her pride in Americans and her appreciation for her country. "I am proud on so many levels, and really traveling this country has made me even more of a proud American today than at any other point in my life," she said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday.

On Independence Day itself, Trump welcomed military families to the White House for a picnic and fireworks show. “There could be no greater privilege than serving as your commander-in-chief,” he told service members on the South Lawn. “I pledge my unwavering support for you, for your families and your missions.”

Talking about the military personnel on duty overseas, Trump said, “We are thanking them, praying for them and saluting them for their selfless sacrifice.”

The 71-year-old president also said the country is progressing on all fronts. “Our country is doing really, really well, no matter where you look. The economy is blazing, and on every front we’re doing well. We do have challenges, but we will handle those challenges, believe me,” reports said.

To mark the occasion of Independence Day, Trump also tweeted a video clip of a church choir singing. The song included the lyrics "Lift the torch of freedom all across the land, step into the future joining hand in hand and make America great again."

The song echoed Trump’s presidential campaign rally cry of “Make America Great Again” which was reminiscent of the iconic conservative former President Ronald Reagan’s slogan of “Let’s Make America Great Again.” Trump pinned his relationship with the phrase to the aftermath of Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2012 and former President Barack Obama’s bid for a second term, reports said.
