Twitter index: Google updates social reading app Currents, Instagram down for maintenance

The new Google Currents app features Google Translate.

Google has updated its social reading app Currents, making it available to Android and iOS users around the world.

“With this update, we’ve made Google Currents available globally, wherever apps are available on Google Play and the Apple App Store,” said Google in an April 11 post on its Mobile Blog. Google Currents version 1.1 also features offline reading, speed improvements, integrated translation and background syncing.

Some Instagram users are complaining that the app is down for maintenance while others are busy using the photo sharing app to post images on Twitter.

“Ooh, hey. I just got a 'performing some brief maintenance' message on @instagram. Is Facebook already installing the spyware?” asked one user joking about Facebook’s recent acquisition of the company.

Fans of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and One Direction are arguing about which fanbase is the most dedicated with fifth-place term "Most Dedicated Fans," although the Twitter trend was originally started when American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold won the Most Dedicated Fans Award at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards on April 11.
