Committing to the Miami Hurricanes is a family affair for the Washingtons.

Robby and Bobby Washington, a pair of juniors at Killian, both orally committed to Miami on Thursday after watching the Hurricanes practice in Coral Gables earlier in the day.

Robby Washington announced his commitment on Twitter and 247Sports.com reported Bobby Washington’s decision.

The Washington twins become the third and fourth players in Miami’s Class of 2023, joining four-star interior lineman Antonio Tripp and three-star wide receiver Lamar Seymore.

Robby Washington is a four-star athlete, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, and Bobby Washington is a three-star linebacker. After Washington spent time in Tennessee, he came back to Florida last year and teamed up with his brother in Miami. Now they’re planning to stick together at the next level.

As a junior, Robby Washington and had 42 catches for 868 yards and 16 touchdowns, and was a first-team all-county selection by the Miami Herald. Bobby Washington had 128 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and one pass defended to earn second-team honors in Miami-Dade County for Classes 5A-Independent.

Their Cougars went undefeated in the 2021 regular season and made it to the region finals for the first time since 2014.

Robby Washington, in particular, is one of the most sought-after recruits in South Florida and holds scholarship offers from the Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. His brother also holds more than two dozen offers.

In January, Robby Washington praised the Hurricanes’ hire of coach Mario Cristobal and said his father, Bobby Washington Sr., has a relationship with Cristobal from his playing days. Washington Sr. was at one point committed to Miami before the university denied his admittance, leading him to play for the NC State Wolfpack. Cristobal was the Hurricanes’ tight ends coach at the time.

For various reasons, both are important pick-ups. Robby Washington is part of a stacked group of South Florida wide receivers in the 2023 recruiting cycle and his pledge comes less than a week after three-star wide receiver Andy Jean decommitted. Bobby Washington, on the other hand, is not as highly ranked as his brother, but fills a major position of need as Miami has struggled to find reliable starters at linebacker for the last two seasons.
