Twin Valley wins in first round of District 3 Class 3A girls volleyball playoffs [updated]

Oct. 26—Twin Valley defeated visiting Garden Spot 3-0 in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A girls volleyball playoffs Tuesday.

The second-seeded Raiders (16-4) beat the 15th-seeded Spartans 25-13, 25-10 and 25-8 to advance to the quarterfinals for the second straight season.

Twin Valley will host seventh-seeded Spring Grove (14-5) in a quarterfinal Thursday at 7 p.m. The Rockets beat Lampeter-Strasburg 3-1 Tuesday.

For the Raiders Tuesday, Emma Lessick had 11 kills, six digs and three blocks; Casey Levan had six kills, six digs and three aces; Jordyn Robinette had five kills and five digs; Mikayla Riehl had five kills, three digs and two aces; and Addison Hertzog had 26 assists, two digs and two aces.

For the Spartans (8-9), Val Martin had five kills and one ace, Avery Smith had three blocks and Mya Paparo had 11 digs.

Twin Valley will be looking to advance to the semifinals for the second straight season. Last year, the Raiders lost to Spring Grove 3-0 in the semis.

Manheim Central 3, Berks Catholic 2: At Wolf Gymnasium, Berks Catholic rallied from two sets down to force a fifth set before falling to Manheim Central in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A playoffs.

The eighth-seeded Saints (15-3) lost the first set 25-22 and the second 25-17 and trailed in the third set by 14-8, 18-11, 22-16 and 24-23 before rallying for a 26-24 victory. They then won the fourth set 25-22, but the ninth-seeded Barons (13-6) rebounded to win the final set 15-13.

For Berks Catholic, Olivia Hagelbarger had 15 kills, one block and 22 digs; Paige Hagan had 15 digs, one kill and five aces; and Maggie McFadden had nine kills, four blocks and four digs.

For Manheim Central, Maddie Knier had 27 kills and four blocks; Addison Doerschur had 51 assists; and Natalie Siegrist had four blocks and 12 kills.

The Barons will play at top-seeded Greencastle-Antrim, a 3-0 winner over Boiling Springs Tuesday, in the semifinals Thursday at 7 p.m.

York Suburban 3, Fleetwood 2: At York Suburban, third-seeded York Suburban defeated 14th-seeded Fleetwood by scores of 25-12, 25-27, 13-25, 25-14, 15-10 in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A playoffs.

For Fleetwood, Haley Hallman had 20 kills, three aces, three blocks and three digs, Ashley Humer had 24 digs and two aces, Emily Wessner had 29 assists, three aces and six digs and Ava Werley had six kills and five digs.

York Suburban (14-3) will host sixth-seeded West York, a 3-1 winner over Susquehannock, Thursday in the quarterfinals 7 p.m.

Elizabethtown 3, Exeter 0: At Elizabethtown, third-seeded Elizabethtown swept 14th-seeded Exeter by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18 in the first round of the District 3 Class 4A playoffs.

For the Eagles (8-8), Riley Mack had seven kills, seven digs and four aces; Katelyn Stanley had three kills and 10 digs; Emily Zigner had nine digs and two aces; and Natalie Schwenk had eight digs and two aces.

Elizabethtown (16-1) will host sixth-seeded Wilson Thursday in the quarterfinals Thursday at 7 p.m.

Central York 3, Gov. Mifflin 0: At York, second-seeded Central York swept 15th-seeded Gov. Mifflin by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-8 in the first round of the District 3 Class 4A playoffs.

For the Mustangs (9-8), Emily Dietzel had four kills and one dig; Ella Holmes had two kills, nine digs and one assist; Cortney Mock had six digs; and Mia Palmieri had five kills.

Central York (12-1) will play host seventh-seeded Cumberland Valley, a 3-0 winner over Conestoga Valley Tuesday, in quarterfinals Thursday at 7 p.m.
