The Twin Peaks revival is being handled with such secrecy by David Lynch that even co-creator Mark Frost hasn't seen it yet!

Lynch has taken on the Herculean task of co-writing and directing all 18 episodes, which bring us back to the alluring and often terrifying world of the Black Lodge, the Double R Diner and One Eyed Jack's.

Three years on from the news that Lynch and Frost were working on new episodes, we're closing in on the telly premiere, but apparently the finishing touches are still being applied.

"I haven't seen the finished product yet. David's still working," Frost has admitted to Esquire.

This incredible secrecy was even more intense during filming, when cast members were only given specific scenes from each episode (rather than full scripts) and only let in on filming locations on the day of their shoot.

"[It was] a game of guessing and torture, but in a sort of pleasant way, and then not knowing becomes part of the fun," Twin Peaks star Naomi Watts joked.

For Lynch's part, he seems to have a sensible explanation for keeping his cast in the dark about the larger world of Twin Peaks 2.0.

"There isn't really a need to have everybody read the whole script," Lynch said. "So they get their scenes. And when we work together, they ask many questions, and they get answers. People get what they need."

Don't let all of this secrecy convince you that the biggest lingering mysteries of the original Twin Peaks will be abandoned or left unsolved.

At the TCA press tour earlier this year, Showtime president David Nevins hinted: "There are certain basic questions that I had at the end of the original [show] - given where Agent Cooper is - and I think get answered."

There are at least a few answers out there right now, thanks to the release of brand new photos and a behind-the-scenes video featuring the original cast.

Twin Peaks' two-hour season premiere will be simulcast on Sunday, May 21 at 9pm on Showtime in the US and Monday, May 22 at 2am on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Watch a teaser below:
