Twice in 12 hours, gunfire rang out in Georgetown. What led to 1 person being shot Tuesday

Georgetown reported its first shooting in at least five years Tuesday night, according to police, leaving one injured from the violence.

Then Wednesday morning, more shots rang out.

The first incident occurred about 8:40 Tuesday night when police were called to the area of West Laurel and North Race streets for a report of a shooting.

A male suspect approached an occupied vehicle and fired at it for an unknown reason, according to interim Georgetown Police Chief Ralph Holm. No one in the vehicle was struck, he said.

While Interim Police Chief Ralph Holm said they've investigated multiple shots-fired complaints, he couldn't remember the last time someone was actually injured by gunfire in Georgetown.

Several people were gathered in the area outside a building nearby, Holm said, and chased the shooter after they heard the gunshots. He fired at them indiscriminately, striking one, according to police.

The victim was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter fled the area in a maroon, crew-cab pickup truck with aftermarket LED lights above the back bumper, according to police.

About 12 hours later, just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the area of the Verizon store on College Park Lane for a report of a fight. A single shot was fired, Holm said. There were no known injuries.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and may have been driving a black sedan, possibly a Honda, according to Holm.

It's unknown if the two incidents are related, Holm said.
