Tuscumbia man arrested in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Muscle Shoals Police Department (MSPD) says a Tuscumbia man was arrested Thursday in connection with multiple vehicle break-ins.

29-year-old Michael Wellington Jr, of Tuscumbia, was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, second-degree theft of property, third-degree theft of property and fraudulent use of a debit/credit card.

According to MSPD, Wellington was arrested after the department received multiple reports of vehicle burglaries in the area of Ford Avenue to West Edison Avenue during the early morning hours of March 13. Authorities said during the burglaries multiple debit/credit cards and other sensitive instruments and documents were stolen.

MSPD said using leads developed during the hours after the burglaries officers were able to locate Wellington and he was later taken into custody.

Jail records show Wellington was booked into the Colbert County Jail at 8:44 p.m. Thursday. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
