Tuscola brings Celtic spirit to life with “A Gaelic Gathering”

TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Vault Art Gallery of Tuscola is bringing the Celtic spirit to life this weekend.

On Saturday, March 9, “A Gaelic Gathering,” will bring all things Gaelic to Central Illinois. The event will include live Irish music, dancing, art and food and is free to all.

Vault board member Cindy Pringle said this year’s event is going to be the biggest St. Patrick’s Day event they’ve had in a long time. She said the gallery will have a special showcase of artwork, clothing, jewelry and other items.

“We will also have an Irish dance showcase featuring the Shamrock Academy of Irish Dance from Champaign, live Celtic music from Motherlode of Charleston and bagpipe tunes by Paul Hinson of Oakland. In addition we will have food like Irish soda bread and a sampling of Irish beer,” Pringle added. “Vault artists will have new work for sale, too.”

Schedule of events:

  • Dance showcase from Shamrock Academy of Irish Dance, noon to 12:45 p.m.

  • Bagpipe music from Paul Hinson of Oakland, 1-1:20 p.m.

  • Celtic music Motherlode trio with Gaye Harrison, Althea Pendergast and Wendy Meyer, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

  • Samplings of Irish beer and food throughout the afternoon
