Turn in unused prescriptions on Drug Take Back Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Saturday is national Prescription Drug Take Back Day at locations across the country.

Hosted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, unneeded prescription drugs will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. You can find the closest of over 4,000 drop-off locations nationwide at the DEA website, including in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood, East Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Wayland, Lowell, Zeeland, Hastings, Lake Odessa, Lakeview and Three Rivers.

Over 300 people die from a drug overdose daily, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. In many of those deaths, prescription drugs were obtained from a family member or friend, the DEA said.

The Drug Take Back event is held twice a year for people to bring leftover or unneeded prescription drugs anonymously and for free. Throughout the rest of the year, drug receptacles can be found at over 13,000 pharmacies, hospitals, police departments and businesses. You can find a list of those locations at the DEA website.
