Turkish Karpowership company to send Ukraine floating power plants

Karpowership, a Turkish innovative energy project, and state-owned trader JSC Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, ECU press office reported on Jan. 26.

The Memorandum foresees electricity supply to Ukraine from floating mini power stations, known as Powerships, with a total capacity of about 500 megawatts.

''Karpowership is delighted to work with ECU to ease Ukraine's power crisis,” the Turkish company said

“Powerships are a fast, reliable, and flexible solution to the nation's electricity shortages, and we are ready to support Ukraine in getting the energy it needs as soon as possible."

The company will coordinate its actions with national and international organizations in order to fund and build Powerships that will be able to produce enough electricity for millions of households in Ukraine.

The floating power stations are to be moored off the coasts of Moldova and Romania, where they will be connected to the Ukrainian electrical grid.

Both Moldova and Romania are to assess the viability of these two options.

Meanwhile, building new power units in Ukraine to replace damaged ones amid the full-scale war is impossible, ECU noted.

Talks with Karpowership on the delivery of three such vessels to Ukraine were reported to have started in December 2022.
