Tupelo man injured in early morning crash

Jan. 26—A Tupelo man was injured in a Thursday morning crash nine miles east of Ada on State Highway 3.

Austin Coles, 20, of Tupelo was northbound on State Highway 3 at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday in a 2016 Jeep when, according to a report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Keith Teel of the Pontotoc County detachment of Troop F, the vehicle departed the roadway and struck an embankment.

Teel's report in indicated the condition of the drive was sleepy, and falling asleep was listed as the cause of the wreck.

Coles was transported by Mercy EMS to Chickasaw Medical Center, then transferred by Mercy EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

Teel was assisted by Stonewall Fire Department.
