Tuition increases approved for New Mexico State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico State University says the state's Board of Regents has approved a 3.7 percent increase in tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates at its main campus in Las Cruces next school year.

That amounts to about $107 more per semester.

Also Thursday, the board approved a 4.4 percent increase in tuition and fees for out-of-state undergraduates, or $400 a semester.

In-state graduate students will see a 3.7 percent increase, and out-of-state graduate students will see a 4.4 percent increase.

The board also approved a 3 percent increase in housing rates, and tuition increases of between 3.2 percent and 4.6 percent for community college students.

The university says the increases are partially due to continuous cuts in its state appropriations — more than $28 million since fiscal year 2009.
