Tuesday could bring another chance for severe storms in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls is at a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday, with more rain expected alongside the possibility of hail and strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms are expected to affect the Sioux Falls area through the afternoon, with forecasts currently showing a 15% chance of both golf ball-sized hail and damaging winds, along with a 2% chance of tornadoes.

Nearly an inch of rain could fall in the area, adding to the several inches that's fallen in recent days. The NWS stated the risk of widespread flash flooding was low, though ponding in urban or poorly-drained areas was possible.

Better information on when the storms are expected, and how severe they may be, is expected Tuesday morning.

Here's the forecast for the rest of the week:

Monday afternoon: Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 51. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 40. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast in the evening.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 and 5 p.m. High near 70. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday night: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 41. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday: A 20% chance of showers after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Friday: A 30% chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.

Friday night: A 40% chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70.
