TSX falls 1.12 percent

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX fell 166.51 points, or 1.12 percent, to 14,721.75. Leading the index were New Gold Inc , up 5.8 percent, NovaGold Resources Inc , up 3.2 percent, and Celestica Inc , higher by 3.2 percent. Lagging shares were Aphria Inc , down 17.3 percent, Aurora Cannabis Inc, down 16.1 percent, and Canopy Growth Corp, lower by 14.1 percent. On the TSX 47 issues rose and 198 fell as a 0.2-to-1 ratio favored decliners. There were no new highs and 42 new lows, with total volume of 275.6 million shares. The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc , Aphria Inc and Bombardier Inc. The TSX's energy group fell 5.10 points, or 3.02 percent, while the financials sector slipped 1.38 points, or 0.5 percent. West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 1.42 percent, or $0.96, to $66.63 a barrel. Brent crude fell 1.1 percent, or $0.85, to $76.77 [O/R] The TSX is off 9.2 percent for the year.
