'Trumpet in the Land' seeks performers for summer and fall seasons; auditions are Saturday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Auditions for the summer and fall seasons of "Trumpet in the Land" will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Tuscarawas County Welcome Center, 124 E. High Ave.

Now in its 55th season, “Trumpet in the Land” at the amphitheater in New Philadelphia retells the story of Ohio’s first settlement, Schoenbrunn, during the Revolutionary War era.

The summer season runs June 21 through Aug. 17. In addition to the outdoor drama, the summer schedule will inlcude productions of the musical “Footloose,” and “The Enchanted Bookshop.” The fall season opens in September with Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins,” followed by “Dracula” in October, and concludes in November with “Beautiful - The Carole King Story.”

People interested in auditioning must be 18 or older, provide a photo and resumé, prepare a one- to two-minute monolog from any play or musical and 16 to 32 bars of a song in the genre of the musicals being performed. An accompanist and CD/mp3 player will be provided. A capella singing is not acceptable.

Those not able to attend Saturday's audition can submit a video audition to trumpet@frontier.com by April 10. Include “Trumpet in the Land Audition” in the subject line of the email and attach a headshot and resume to the email along with the video or link to video.

Other productions

Actors, singers and dancers of all abilities, ethnicities, and gender identities are encouraged to audition for "Footloose" and must be available for the full length of the contract. Theatre technicians will also be interviewed and must provide a resume of work with references. Rehearsals for the summer season will begin on June 3 and shows will be performed June 21 through Aug. 17.

All roles are available for the production of "Beautiful" and it is preferred that the role of Carole King be able to accompany herself on the piano. In addition, African-American performers are needed for such roles as The Drifters, The Shirelles, and Little Eva. Rehearsals for “Beautiful” will begin Oct. 14, and the contract will run through Nov. 10.

Rehearsals for “Assassins” begin Aug. 26, and the contract will run through Sept. 15. “Dracula” rehearsals begin Sept. 30 with performances through Oct. 12.

Productions will be directed by Joseph Bonamico with music direction by Zachary Rusk and choreography by Bart Herman. All positions are paid.
