With the 2024 Republican National Convention less than two months away, voters are eager to find out who former President Donald Trump will choose to join him as the GOP vice presidential nominee. However, a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll of registered Republicans and Republican-leaning independents shows there’s no clear favorite among voters. Yahoo News National Correspondent Andrew Romano walks through the result.

So we just did a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll and we asked Republicans and Republican-leaning independents if they had any preferences for who Donald Trump might pick to join him on the ticket.

The person with the least support is North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum at 1%.

Next on the list is New York Rep. Elise Stefanik. She's the fourth ranking Republican in Congress and has been a staunch Trump defender. That gets her to 3%.

Next up, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem. She has been in the news a lot lately because she essentially boasted that she shot and killed her own dog. She's at 4%.

Next up, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, also at 4%.

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake has said a lot of very, very positive things about Trump, [which] only gets her to 5%.

Then we have a group, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, all at 9%.

And then we have just one person who has cracked double digits in our poll.

That is South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott. He's at 13% in our poll. So I guess you could call him the front runner.

But the truth is, there's a lot of uncertainty among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents about who Trump should pick to put on his ticket.

A full 20% of them say they're not sure.

14% say they don't care who he picks and 9% say someone else who he didn't list in the poll.
