Be careful what you wish for.

A Donald Trump-supporting woman, who voted for the US president in part because of his immigration policy, is set to see her husband deported.

Helen Beristain’s husband, Roberto, is to be sent back to Mexico after it was discovered he entered the US illegally back in 1998.

Roberto, who owns a restaurant in Indiana was detained after he made his annual check in with immigration officials last month.

After entering America he received immigration papers but in 2000 Roberto accidentally crossed over into Canada on a trip to Niagara Falls and ended up being detained by officials.

He was then told to leave the US but did not because Helen was pregnant.

This meant immigration officials had the authority to deport him, which they are doing now, after last month’s check-in.

Roberto and Helen have four daughters.

Helen told US media that she thought Trump would only deport dangerous crimiinals, not “model citizens”.

“[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked,” Helen said, as reported by Law Newz.

The deportation has also provoked an angry response from some in the community who claim Roberto is a good man “without so much as a traffic ticket against his name.”
