President-Elect Donald Trump lives his entire life like the kid in class who didn't do the reading. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, called Trump today to congratulate him on his victory and discuss future partnership. Here is the text of that call, in what seems like near-verbatim, courtesy of Pakistan's Press Information Bureau:

Is anything not "terrific" or "fantastic"? "Fantastic country, fantastic place of fantastic people." There is basically nothing in here to indicate Trump knows anything about this country, which is a (deeply troubled) strategic ally of the nation he's about to start commander-in-chiefing. He may not be much interested in this kind of thing, but couldn't someone at least give him a briefing before the call?

What this does indicate is that, as we've come to realize, Trump will sometimes say whatever it takes to please someone he's in a private conversation with-in a room or on the phone. Unlike his rallies, where he enjoys yelling at everyone who's not there, in small, private meetings, he can avoid conflict and seek approval.

How do we know he doesn't actually think Pakistan is fantastic? Why, Twitter, of course! He's cranked out more than a few non-fantastic descriptions of the place through the years:

He's really shaking things up!
