Trump Posts Campaign Ad Referencing a ‘Unified Reich’

Donald Trump has made a lot of terrifying promises about the future of the country should he win the White House in November. The former president has already vowed to only act like a dictator on “day one,” and now his campaign is now making references to a “unified Reich” under Trump.

On Monday, Trump posted a video on social media promising a booming economy, an end to debt, a closed border, mass deportations, and an end to all wars should he win the presidency. The video was styled as a series of fake newspaper covers that flashed across the screen. Among the fake stories visible in the video was a headline promising the “creation of a unified Reich,” ostensibly a reference to the German word meaning “realm” that is closely associated with the Nazi’s self-characterization as Germany’s “Third Reich.”

Users on social media were quick to point out the headline. President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign posted still images of the video, writing that the former president was “echoing Nazi Germany” in his post.

James Singer, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, told Axios that “Donald Trump is not playing games; he is telling America exactly what he intends to do if he regains power: rule as a dictator over a ‘unified reich.'”

The Trump campaign claimed that the former president himself had not shared the video, and that it was “reposted by a staffer who clearly did not see the word, while the President was in court.” However, at the time the video was posted, Trump’s hush-money trial was on its lunch break, and despite the attempt to distance the former president from the post, it remains visible on his Truth Social account.
