Trump: Northam Defended ‘Executing’ Babies
President Trump accused Virginia governor Ralph Northam of defending the practice of executing infants after they are delivered during a Monday night rally in El Paso, Texas.
“The governor states that he would even allow a new born baby to come out into the world, and wrap the baby, and make the baby comfortable. And then talk to the mother and talk to the father, and then execute the baby! Execute the baby!,” Trump said to raucous jeers and booing from the crowd.
Trump was referring to Northam’s highly-publicized defense of Democratic Virginia delegate Kathy Tran’s late-term abortion bill, which, as she admitted during a committee hearing, would allow the performance of abortions up until the moment of birth. During a radio interview following Tran’s admission on the Virginia House floor, Northam appeared to offer an unsolicited defense of the practice of allowing infants to die once they are delivered following a botched abortion procedure.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” he told WTOP. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
In the days following Northam’s apparent defense of infanticide, his future political prospects were further marred by the emergence of a racist photo on his 1984 medical school yearbook page.
After initially admitting that he did appear in the photo, which depicts one man in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan uniform, Northam backtracked and denied appearing in the image, but admitted to darkening his face for a Michael Jackson costume on a separate occasion.
Trump, during the Monday night rally, cited Northam’s blackface admission and mocked him for considering a reporter’s request that he imitate Michael Jackson’s moonwalk during a press conference he held to apologize for the appearance of the photo.
“He’s gotten a little publicity lately. He keeps us out of the papers…He almost moonwalked, his wife stopped him. ‘Darling, darling this would be inappropriate,’” Trump said. “I want to see someone try to imitate Michael jackson in the moonwalk. This would not have been a good scene.”
