President Trump has slammed GOP leaders as “weak and tired” in a Twitter rant today where he also reiterated earlier calls for higher Covid relief payments for Americans.

The outgoing President also released a campaign-style video despite it being months after the election, just hours before he backed a call by Senator Bernie Sanders to filibuster the Senate if a vote is not held on the Covid-19 stimulus bill passed by the House of Representatives.

Mr Sanders said he would “object” until there was a vote on legislation to provide a $2,000 payment to Americans. Mr Trump tweeted in praise of his plans saying: “Give the people $2000, not $600. They have suffered enough!”

It comes as Joe Biden has warned of the “massive damage” being done to national security because of officials’ putting up “roadblocks” for his transition team.

Mr Biden said: “Right now we just aren’t getting all the information that we need from the outgoing administration in key national security areas. It’s nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility.”
