Trump: ISIS will give Clinton MVP award, 'her only competition is Barack Obama'

Donald Trump kept up his attacks on what he says was Hillary Clinton's role in the rise of ISIS, telling home builders on Thursday his Democratic rival is the terror group's MVP.

"Our government has unleashed ISIS," Trump told a National Association of Home Builders convention in Miami Beach. "ISIS will hand her the most valuable player award. Her only competition is Barack Obama."

Trump began that line of attack on Clinton and Obama on Wednesday and repeated it in a CNBC phone interview Thursday morning. He cited Obama's drawdown of troops in Iraq as a factor in the rise of the Islamic State terror group.

Clinton policy adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement that Trump's claim about Obama's founding of ISIS "is another example of Donald Trump trash-talking the United States."

"It goes without saying that this is a false claim from a presidential candidate with an aversion to the truth and an unprecedented lack of knowledge," Sullivan said.

The comments came as part of a wide-ranging speech Trump gave on friendly turf. The GOP presidential nominee and New York real estate tycoon talked about his family's history in the homebuilding industry and how his economic plans would benefit homebuilders.

"I learned so much, so much from a homebuilder, there's no greater thing you can do," Trump told the crowd, referring to his father and real estate developer Fred Trump. "Homebuilding is very close to my heart — that's where I grew up."

Trump sought to tie his remarks to the economic vision he laid out in a speech in Detroit on Monday, in which he proposed a temporary moratorium on new agency regulations.

"You're being driven wild with regulation," Trump said. "If short-circuit Hillary Clinton ever gets elected, it's only going to be worse."
