WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The Republican Speaker of the House and Donald Trump are teaming up in Florida.  The two leaders will make a joint announcement about election security.

The visit comes at a critical time for both leaders.  The start of the former president’s criminal trial over alleged hush money payments in New York is just days away.

“He’s the leader of our party. I think it’s good for him and the Speaker to get together,” said Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.).

On Capitol Hill, some Republicans like Congressman Bob Good are hopeful the visit brings unity to the party.

“To be on the same page on things,” said Good.

The visit comes while Johnson’s leadership post hangs by a thread.

Ultra conservatives led by Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene are threatening to oust Johnson after he worked across the aisle with Democrats to pass a budget and is currently trying to get funding to Ukraine.

“He’s the Democrat Speaker of the House not the Republicans elected speaker,” said Greene.

Greene is threatening to pull the trigger.  The move would likely plunge the House into another drawn out vote for a new speaker.

“Because of my respect for my conference, I won’t be drawing red lines,” said Greene.

Greene insists Trump is not influencing her decisions, but Democrats suggest the former president is calling the shots.

“That’s a question that Speaker Johnson is going to have to answer himself,” said House Minority Leader Hakeen Jeffries.

Ahead of Johnson’s and Trump’s announcement, the Biden campaign was already on the attack. In a statement, a spokesperson calls the two leaders losers who are teaming up to spread lies and misinformation.

Trump and Johnson are expected to lay out ideas on how to stop non-citizens from voting, according to federal law that is already a felony.
