Trump Floats New Plan to Fight Fake News: ‘Take Away Credentials?’

President Donald Trump floated a new plan to fight his adversaries in the so called “fake news” world, tweeting Wednesday that it might be time to consider revoking press credentials.

“The Fake News is working overtime. Just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things else, 91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake),” he wrote. “Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt? Take away credentials?”

It’s unclear what prompted the president’s latest dyspeptic media outburst, but other tweets from him Wednesday suggest “Fox & Friends” is on the television at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Media credentialing from the White House allows members of the press corps to attend official media events, including the daily press briefing and other announcements. Mass revoking of credentials would likely be met with deep hostility from the press corps and, like many of Trump’s threats against the media, probably won’t come to fruition.

It’s been a busy day for Trump on his favorite platform. In addition to his latest broadside against fake news, the president also lauded Kanye West mentor Candace Owens and later on pivoted in a more hard news direction to reveal that three Americans being held in North Korea had been officially released and were currently on their way back to the United States.
