Trump, corruption, greed: NJ Senate race coming into view

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Democratic New Jersey U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez and Republican former pharmaceutical company executive Bob Hugin (HYOO'-gihn) fended off primary challengers and are taking their attacks into the general election.

Menendez had federal corruption charges against him dropped this year and defeated publisher Lisa McCormick on Tuesday. Hugin ran Celgene Corp. until this year and beat concrete company executive Brian Goldberg.

Their victories set up New Jersey's only statewide general election race for November.

Menendez and Hugin have been attacking each other already. Hugin cites the Menendez corruption case as a sign the two-term incumbent is unfit for office. Menendez points to Hugin's experience as a "greedy CEO" to argue he's a bad fit for the state.
